7 Up
7 Up is a brand of pop, part of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. 7 Up was created by Charles Leiper Grigg from St. Louis, Missouri. The product wasn't always known as 7 Up, but was originally named "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda". However, this was short-lived and it was soon given a new, shorter name that people might remember easier. The name 7 Up was born and it was destined to compete with the other top players in the world.

How the name 7 Up came to be
Much has been said and written about the origin of the name 7 Up over the years. However, the fact is that its creator, Charles Leiper Grigg, never revealed how he got this name exactly. There are quite a few theories that might just turn out to be the truth. One of the most obvious is the fact that the figure 7 refers to the original capacity of a bottle, 7 ounces. The "up" would then be derived from "bottoms up!". Another possibility is that the 7 refers to the seven ingredients that it used to be made with. The "up" in this theory would refer to the carbonic acid that 7 Up is rich with.

Like other brands, 7 Up also needed to extend its standard selection. They did this by surprising the audience with a light version of the original soft drink. Introduced in 2006, this version was named 7 Up Free. Because the brand wanted to further strengthen its market position, it was soon voted to launch some new flavours. No sooner said than done, and the 7 Up Free XtraBite was introduced in 2007. About a year later, in the summer of 2008, Citrus Splash followed. Remarkable detail, this is a 7 Up pop without carbonation and sugar. The drink is also available in various other flavours, namely Lemon & Lime and Mandarin.

Some less successful experiments
As is the case for almost any brand of pop, 7 Up also had to take a few flavours from the shelves over the years. The reason for this was not always a lack of popularity. Some flavours were introduced as limited editions from the outset. A well-known example is 7 Up Pomegranate, which was available during the Christmas period one year. Afterwards, production was stopped, to the dismay of its fans. Fortunately, today, the 7 Up brand offers various delicious drinks that you will undoubtedly be able to appreciate.
